What is the closest airport to Seward Alaska?

This is a commonly asked question. Many visitors don’t realize that you can only get to Seward only by bus, rail, train, shuttle, or car. Even though Seward AK has a tiny airport it is only accessible by small aviation flights with a runway of only a few hundred feet and no airport terminal.

Closests major airport is about 125 miles North and is Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Anchorage’s airport is a major cargo and passenger operation with most major airlines flying all over the world to every destination. Since most visitors come to Alaska by air using a major airline, Anchorage airport is the best option where you can rent a car, meet your bus or train and travel all over the South Central Alaska.

Seward is a city in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. According to 2005 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 3,016.

It was named after William H. Seward, United States Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. In 1867, he fought for the U.S. purchase of Alaska which he finally negotiated to acquire from Russia.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.5 square miles (55.8 km²), of which, 14.4 square miles (37.4 km²) of it is land and 7.1 square miles (18.4 km²) of it (32.93%) is water.

Adjoining communities include Bear Creek and Lowell Point.
